The Heritage Group does terrific work running and maintaining the museum at Aston Fire Station. It’s a fantastic facility, staffed by former WMFS firefighters who have seen equipment and uniform change throughout the decades. Guided tours are also available. The West Midlands Casualty Simulation Group stages real-life scenarios to emergency services for training. Their volunteers act as casualties for a range of incident types and training, as well as supporting WMFS training new firefighters and at our open days.
Prevention Advocate Volunteers deliver tours at our immersive Safeside village facility in Birmingham. It has several scenarios including a bank, house, road, shop, police station and more, where schoolchildren and young adults receive valuable safety messages.
Eighty-five Cadet Instructors support around 300 Fire Cadets at eight branches in the West Midlands. Groups meet at Aldridge, Wolverhampton, West Bromwich, Wednesbury, Oldbury, Foleshill, Coventry and Binley. Read more about our Cadet groups here.
The WMFS band, who celebrate their 40th birthday this year, practise weekly. Comprising members from all walks of life, they brilliantly represent West Midlands Fire Service at functions and events throughout the year. They also perform at their own concerts. The WMFS Pipe Band entertain with the Highland bagpipe, accompanied by snare and tenor drummers. Based in Birmingham, they’re affiliated to the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and compete in contests across the UK. One of their major functions is to represent and be ambassadors for West Midlands Fire Service, regularly performing at events including parades, carnivals and fire service functions.
