Firefighters extinguish severe house fire in Shirley, Solihull

Shortly before 10pm on Tuesday 10 December, we responded to Kingshurst Road, Shirley, Solihull.Five fire engines, two 4×4 brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic platform responded, crewed by firefighters from Solihull, Billesley, Hay Mills, Kings Norton, Sheldon and Northfield stations.
This was a severe fire in a semi-detached house, affecting both the ground and first floor and the roof space.
Firefighters entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and discovered a woman unconscious inside who was rescued and brought outside. She received trauma care from attending fire crews and paramedics. Despite the best efforts of WMFS and WMAS personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crews worked to bring the fire under control and were able to prevent it spreading to the adjoining neighbouring property. The fire was confirmed extinguished at around 11.40pm. Crews spent several hours damping down, ensuring no hotspots remained.
Due to extensive fire damage throughout the property, fire investigations are continuing at the scene to establish the cause.
