Derelict building fire, New Hall Street, Willenhall
Six fire crews, supported by a hydraulic aerial platform, are tackling a fire in a derelict building on New Hall Street, in Willenhall.

At 9.36am this morning, we received multiple calls to reports of a fire on New Hall Street, Willenhall. A total of six fire engines, from Willenhall, Bilston, Fallings Park, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Bloxwich, and a hydraulic aerial platform from Walsall, are at the scene. A member of our specialist drone team is also en route to the location. The incident involves rubbish on fire in a derelict property, near the junction of Cemetery Road. Firefighters are using five main jets, to tackle the blaze, which has spread to the whole property. West Midlands Police have been requested to manage road closures. Please avoid the area, and if you live or work nearby, please close doors and windows as a precaution.

Crews are making progress at this incident, which originated as a rubbish fire and spread to a nearby derelict building and surrounding grounds. Due to smoke in the area, residents and those nearby are asked to close doors and windows. West Midlands Police are in attendance supporting our crews. Currently, New Hall Street is closed, with some traffic measures in place on Cemetery Street.
Crews continue to tackle the fire at the incident, with six fire crews in attendance. We are working to gain safe access to the building, to support firefighting activities. A structural engineer is on-scene and is assessing the building. New Hall Street remains closed and residents are reminded to continue to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution.
Crews are making good progress at this incident. It’s expected, due to the volume of material and deep-seated nature of the fire, that crews will be in attendance for some time. Drone operations at the scene have concluded. Technical Rescue teams are at the scene supporting our firefighters with gaining access to the property. Council representatives are also on site. New Hall Street remains closed and guidance to keep doors and windows in the area closed is still in effect.
Crews remain at the scene, continuing to extinguish the fire and monitor. Technical rescue crews supported gaining access to areas of the affected building and work is now underway to extinguish the fire in those areas. We expect to be able to reduce the number of resources we have at this incident as we go into the evening. Road closures and safety messages remain in effect.
Three fire engines and a Hydraulic Platform remain on scene as our crews continue their work to fully extinguish the fire. New Hall Street will remain closed overnight. Our Safety advice to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed will remain in place until the hours of darkness this evening.
At this time our operations will have been scaled back and the smoke plume will have cleared.
