Fire in commercial unit on Barr Street, Hockley
Eight fire crews attended a fire in a commercial property, which was destroyed by fire, on Barr Street, Hockley.

On Sunday 18 July, we received a number of calls to reports of a fire on Barr Street in Hockley, Birmingham.
Crews initially were mobilised from Ladywood, Aston and Handsworth Fire Stations. At the height of the incident, eight crews were in attendance with a hydraulic aerial platform also supporting.
The incident involved a fire in a single-storey commercial unit, with other commercial premises on each side. The main property was 100% affected by fire and its roof collapsed.
A total of five main jets and two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire. Fire service aerial drones were also used for monitoring and to support incident management.
After good progress was made by crews, our resources at the scene were reduced to six fire engines and one hydraulic platform at approximately 1.45pm. This was further reduced to four crews from around 7.30pm. By midnight, a single crew remained at the scene.
Checking of hot spots and damping down took place throughout the evening and overnight. A single crew remains at the scene this morning but is expected to leave shortly.
Hockley Street and Barr Street were closed at the height of the incident. As of 9.45am, Hockley Street has re-opened and Barr Street remains closed between Hockley Street and Hartford Street.
West Midlands Police attended the scene to support cordons. A structural engineer from Birmingham City Council attended to assess the property. Representatives from utility companies also attended to support safe working at the scene.
No persons were involved or injuries reported.
Investigations into the cause of the fire, by West Midlands Police and our fire investigation teams, continue.
