Four crews were mobilised to a flat fire on Lillington Road, Coventry, where 5 people were led to safety by firefighters.

On 9 September at 10.37am, we were called to a fire in a flat on Lillington Road, Wood End in Coventry. Crews from Coventry, Canley and Foleshill attended the incident, which involved a fire in a ground floor flat of a four-storey premises. Three people were out of the property on our arrival. Crews forced entry to three premises and led five people to safety from several flats, four were led using smoke hoods. Two dogs were also rescued by firefighters. One is fit and well, the other sadly was confirmed deceased at the scene. As of 11.28am, the fire was confirmed out. Crews are now ventilating the property. West Midlands Ambulance are also in attendance and treating one occupant for smoke inhalation. Colleagues from West Midlands Police are also in attendance. Investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.

Crews have safely gained access to all flats in the building and confirmed all persons are accounted for. The fire, which is believed to have started in the living room, is being treated as accidental. One occupant was understood to have been conveyed to hospital, by West Midlands Ambulance, with smoke inhalation. The police and ambulance services have since left the scene. Crews will be leaving the scene once they have liaised with the building management company.
