ACFO appointments made at West Midlands Fire Service
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is pleased to confirm the permanent appointments of Simon Barry and Richard Stanton as Assistant Chief Fire Officers. Simon Barry joined WMFS in 2000 as a firefighter at Erdington Community Fire Station. After holding a Station Commander position, he became Operations Commander for Black Country North. In an extensive career, Simon has experience working on several significant projects. These include the National Operational Guidance review of Incident Command and leading the People Programme as Assistant Chief Fire Officer. He became temporary Deputy Chief Fire Officer in February 2023. Richard Stanton joined the service more than two decades ago. Beginning as a firefighter in Coventry, Richard would become a Station Commander, working at four Birmingham Fire Stations. His experience includes work in Specialist Response, Corporate Communications, and later, a Group Commander in Operations and Head of Portfolio. Richard also supports several people-related functions including People Support Services and Diversity, Inclusion, Cohesion, and Equality (DICE).
